This seems like it should be easy to fix, but for some reason I'm stumped. I've set up a WRT54G as an access point on our network. The LAT within our ISA is set for 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255 so I set up the router with an internal address of 192.168.0.99 and turned off DHCP as the DC is handling that. Everything is fine except for one thing.

When browsing the network computers from a computer that is not using the wireless access point, the computers that are behind the access point are not showing up. You can type in \\Woodstock and get to the computer and it's shared folders, and then the computer shows up on the tree but not in the display window.

Other than that, everything is great but for some reason I can't seem to get this one figured out.

Thanks for any help.

If the computers are set to get an address from a DHCP server, and that server is on the other side of the Linksys router, your computers may be defaulting to an IP address in the range of 169.254.0.1-169.254.255.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0.

You can check this by going to a command prompt on the computer in question and typing "ipconfig" without the quotation marks.

How are you connected to the network from the linksys router?

I should have replied earlier....but it is working fine. It was a false alarm. The computers are receiving the ip address from the DHCP server (not the router) just fine and all computers are seeing each other, but the computers that are wireless connected don't show up in their own windows explorer. The machines are XPSP2 which is kind of strange. Before they would show up, but not now, but it really isn't an issue as I don't technically need to see my computer within the network places.

See if nay setting on the router is blocking broadcast traffic.
It might be set to block ICMP or WAN traffic.

you know what...bcastner might be the smartest being alive. time and time again he is right on with his answers. after disabling the firewall settings which was blocking anonymous internet requests, the machines wirelessly connected started showing up in their own explorer window.

thanks again.
