Please help! I have a laptop connected to a dlink router (DI 614+) via an ethernet cable which is then connected to my Speedstream modem. I am trying to use a Linksys WRT54G wireless device to go online with my PS2. When I bought everything, I set it up as per the instructions and after a few hiccups was online gaming. However my connection kept dropping and thinking that it might be a firmware issue, I downloaded a firmware update for the dlink router. I can still connect to the internet but now I cannot go online with the PS2 network adapter. The connection just times out. I have a broadband account that uses a user name and password. The dlink router is set up as follows:
IP: 192.168.0.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gaming mode on, all other settings should be default.

WRT546 IP: 192.168.1.250 (default setting)
Mask: 255.255.255.0

The strange thing is, I cannot connect to the WRT54G web client, this also times out, but when I connect the WRT54G to my laptop, I can surf the internet fine. I can connect to the dlink web client. I've tried resetting everything, disconnecting devices, powering down, then rebooting, nothing seems to be working. Is anyone familiar with the PS2 network adapter? I also erased the original network settings on my memory card in an attempt to do everything from scratch, but still no luck. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

IP 192.168.0.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0 will not talk to IP 192.168.1.250. You need to change the IP or the netmask.

So if I change the WRT54G IP to 192.168.0.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0, this should fix the problem?

By the way, I bypassed the dlink and WRT54G and connected the PS2 directly to the modem and was able to connect without any disconnects, so it's just a matter of getting the proper settings for the WRT54G, but I still can't get into the web client.

Hi bigmike.
You would need to set your WRT54G to something OTHER than 192.168.0.1 because that is the IP address of the dlink and they can't both be the same. They need to have the same netmask (to specify that they are both in the same subnetwork) but have different IP addresses within that same subnet.
Eg: if you leave the dlink as 192.168.0.1 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 then you can set the WRT54G to, say, 192.168.0.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0
...or 192.168.0.3(or 4, 5, ....100... up to 254)

With the netmask of 255.255.255.0, IP addresses of 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 means that the SUBNET is 192.168.0.anything - and your hosts (WRT54G and dlink interface) are addresses number 1 and 2 (or 3, or 4, or 254... however you number them) in that same subnet.

So in summary set one device to:
192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
and the other to
192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0
and it should work.

If you notice in your original message that your pc and the router are addressed in 2 different subnet ranges and that is why you cannot get to the router . 192.168.0 is not in the address range of 192.168.1.250 , change this address to 192.168.1.XX where xx is an address that is not already being used . If you just used dhcp you wouldn't have this problem , the router would automatically assign the address every time you log on .

IP: 192.168.0.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gaming mode on, all other settings should be default.

WRT546 IP: 192.168.1.250 (default setting)
Mask: 255.255.255.0

After reading your post again you could simplify if you get rid of the Dlink as the linsys is also a router and you could just use that instead of having 2 pieces of equipment in the mix trying to get them to work with each other .
