Peer Information, parent company of Wrox press, yesterday declared bankruptcy. Wrox, publishers of the reknowned red technical manuals for all manners of Internet technologies will cease to be. (Current projects will be abandoned or sold on by liquidators).

This includes publisher Glashaus ( also a member of the Peer Information group.

OMG!

Tell me this is a joke or something!

Mind you, I'm sure that some other publishing house will pick up the rights...but still!

I COLOR COORDINATED MY OFFICE RED TO MATCH MY WROX BOOKS! IT'S NOT FAIR!
(ok, I didn't REALLY do that)

'fraid so. A guy at the office knows a couple of authors for Wrox, and they're upset because the company owed them money.

Chip H.

Have they heard anything about other publishing houses picking up the rights to their books?

D

I don't know.

I imagine the copyright issues will have to go through the bankruptcy court - the books are considered an asset of the company (probably the only one at this point), and the rights to republish them will likely be sold to the highest bidder. Since Wrox books are generally held in high regard, there probably won't be any shortage of bidders.

A couple of books I've been impressed with recently are the SAMS books with the blue covers. I hope all that happens is the Wrox books have their covers change color. :)

Well they certainly didn't go under because of my lack of recommendations.

There's always a bright side, though, isn't there. At least we'll most likely be able to snatch up a bunch of first rate books at cut rate prices in the very near future. Watch those surplus websites. ;-)
