wrong modem driver in xphome

I used the wrong driver when installing my modem which installed it in winxp as the wrong model. When I remove and try to re-install it winxp autodetects it as the model from the first install and wont let me install with the correct driver so it can be correctly identified.
How can I make xp forget the previous install?

Tell it not to find the driver automaticly.

You select the second option, to specify a driver and path. Ask it to show all compatible hardware, and pick the appropriate driver.

A better course might be to download a new driver set from the modem manufacturer. Then use the "Have Disk" option and point at the location of the files.
