UNIX WARNING PCI @ 4.200/FIBER CHANNEL @ 1 SB @ 10,0
Wrong Magic Number

This is a sun Ultra 450.
The OS is Solaris 7.
Veirtas Volume Manager 3.1.1.
The Server is connected to an EMC Symmetrix 8430.
The HBA's are McData.

Probably means you need to label the disk

Use the format command in Solaris

wardy66 is right, this is not a symmetrix issue. Every time you install a new disk in your solaris system, you will get that message because the label is not written. The label is a metadata written to the disk when you issue "format > label" to the disk and it has the partitioning information. When you assing a new symmetrix LUN to the solaris, you actually are installing a new disk drive, so the procedure is the same.

Just issue "format", select the symm LUN and issue "label".
