Hi,

we have a DHCP Server workin fine, but there is a Windows XP getting a wrong IP (172.17.10.0).

Any idea?

Thanks.

Make sure you check your reservation lists on your DHCP and compare the MAC addresses with your XP machine. It's probably in the list so it's getting a reserved address. Once you find it, delete the entry if you want your XP machine to simply get the next available IP address in your pool.

It sounds like the network card is mis-configured or faulty and windows is just assigning it a basic address.

Check your drivers and network settings, if that does not work replace the card.

Basic addresses are 169.254.x.x usually.

The network card is right and IP address is excluded from the range. I've just deleted the entry for this machine and it's already getting this IP address (172.17.10.0).

Run an ipconfig /all and make sure it's contacting the correct DHCP server.

Not the exclusions, the Reservations. Exlusions are for when you want to exclude certain addresses entirely from your DHCP. Reservations will give the same IP to the same MAC address every time.

Make sure any other computer on your network not running as DHCP Server
