Wrong Domain Name listed in MTA configuration status

Our domain name is AVSC
one of the post offices in the domain is NYC
all settings and links look ok.

at the netware server console, when u go into configuration status on MTA, it shows domain as NYC instead of AVSC

how can this happen, and should i be concerned ?
i ask this because we are having some strange problems with replies to external addresses. sometimes, the system appends an @NYC to the address, thus making it invalid.
e.g. jdoe@somecompany.com@NYC

any help is appreciated.
