I have installed Sniffer Distributed agent a customary PC on one with two Network Interface Cards.
Win NT 4.0 Engl. with SP6a runs on this.

The date and the time is shown at the Sniffer Distributed Console wrongly.

The date and the time on the Agent and Console are correctly.

The time stamps of the frames in the Decode are correctly.

Who can help me along?

Sort of a known issue;

It's probably the custom PC that you are using.
The Dashboard gets the time from the mainboard and some PC brands have a different way of 'clocking' it. (don't know how to call anything else really....)
This has been reproduced on a couple of other platforms and that is why NAI only supports there own platforms where they can be sure that everything is tested and running good.

Thanks you for the information.

I can do what in such a case?

Can somebody help me along?

According to me NAI does not sell the Distributed Software only without the hardware. At least they should not do that.
I think you should contact your sales contact and see what they have to say.

Until this year, NAI did sell their DSS software separately. I know because our company owns a 20-license pack. I have seen the same problem you have with the time differences and have not found a fix.

Just wondering...Are you also loading Sniffview console on the Distributed Sniffers?

I personally do not have sniffview console loaded on the agent? Should I do that?
Also, the time sync is a big deal when working with NPO Visualizer. NPO thanks the box is GMT -5 when it should be GMT -6. The NT box is definitely configured for GMT -6 as well. Thanks.

Hi,
Like Andre said the time on the GUI is taken from the "Agents" system clock, there may be a BIOS time date setting depending on the system board your machine is using.

Also I do recommend keeping all the regional setting (the general tab and "local inputs")set us to English (US). AS the US don't use 24hr cl;ocks!!!

This will also explain the problems with nPO Visualiser (WATCH).

When using nPO Visualiser, make sure that both the agent and visualiser units are set to the correct time in their relevant time zone eg if the agent is in the UK set to GMT, if in Yank land set to PST. Make sure you keep all the local inputs to English (US) though.

NAI no longer sell Sniffer Distributed Software, they stoped about 2 years ago. If you did buy it in the past, you can still get maintainance for it, (speak to you NAI account manager or reseller), but probably not for long!

Thanks for the many answers.

NAI Germany has sold last year the Sniffer Distributed software without NAI hardware.
This was the last customer here in Germany who has bought the Sniffer Distributed software as software only.

I have installed Sniffer Distributed agent a customary PC on one with two Network Interface Cards.
Win NT 4.0 Engl. with SP6a runs on this.

I don't use a nPO Visualiser (WATCH).

The SniffView console doesn't run on the same system like the Sniffer Distributed agent.

The SniffView console runs on a system with Win2000 as a German Version.

With Sniffer Distributed Agents with NAI hardware has the same SniffView console system no problems.

I have unofficially got the following information of the NAI support.

Problem probably will lie, no NAI use hardware . the time we have seen this with Compaq machinen before, this the time gets Sniffer of the Mainboard and Compaq somehow generates the time there different from our hardware . the Compaq engineers had this tells the extended IRQs responsibly for it you were . this can be good your machine unite another implementation of Extended IRQs has.

I am grateful for every answer.

Hi all:

It might be late, but I had the same problem in a Dolch Flex Pack and in a DSS with 4 G.703 ports. Nothing worked it out until I reinstalled the OS and Sniffer software. Now it is working excelent !!
Nothing to do with BIOS clock or Regional Settings ( of course, they were correct all the time ).

Hope this helps.
