Wrong Address???

It was brought to my attention that an email was addressed to a specific user and it was delivered to a completley different user. This is the first time we know of this occurance. What could have caused this and how do I prevent it from happening?

EXAMPLE: email is addressed to john@emailaddress.com and it was delivered to larry@emailaddress.com instead of being delivered to the intended recipient.

both of these users exist in the domino but the accounts are not connected in any way at all.
 
Did you see that email ? Did you check the header and recipient names ?
Is this Notes mail, or is this Internet mail arriving in Notes ? Notes mail cannot be spoofed by a user, Internet mail can (and often is).

this email came from one of our vendors, and was addressed to a specific user. The intended user does not receive the email at all. Instead a different user receives the email. The header/recipient name has only the name of the intended user it does not have the address of the person who actually received it.
The guy who actually received the email would never have had any reason to be contacted by the sender, nor would the sender have this guys address or any reason to contact him.
2 - The 2 users here the intended an unintended recipient don't not work in the same department or even communicate with each other - so we know it wasn't forwarded.



 
Check your ALIASES for these 2 users; If there is any conflicts, this is the first place to look (MAIN Address book under 'Short name / User id' pr user).

If there is ANY duplicates here, the mail could go wrong.

Generic tip: Create a view in the MASTER address book where all INTERNET ADDRESSES and SHORTNAMES are listed. If there are DUPLICATES found, correct them and your mail will flow better... Remember: There is a duplicate check built in for INTERNET ADDRESS, but NOT for shortname/userid ... :)
