Writing to Log File From Oracle Report Concurrent Request in 11i

Hi - Does anybody know how I can output to the log file generated from a concurrent request to run an Oracle Report, from within the Report. Basically, I run the report as a request, and when certain criteria happens within the report, I want to output to the Log file. I have read that srw.message can be used, or fnd_file.put_line, however neither of these seem to work - any ideas ?

Here's what metalink says:
Fnd_File package need to be used only in a stored procedure/Package. If you are using anonymous block(declare..begin..end) use dbms_output.put_line package
