Writing to a PDF file

Hi all,

I am trying to see if it's possible to write text to a PDF file, I have been able to open it with a WshShell.Run command but can't do much once it's open because I haven't been able to find any write commands online, or if I am able to do a GetObject type of deal with the adobe application that would be good as well.

I would just like to be able to write in a PDF file, any advice is greatly appreciated!

PDF specification is pretty big. Are you sure you want to do this?

Have a look at [link partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/PDFReference.pdf]PDF Reference[/url]. When I was working in a firm specializing in file formats, there were only three people out of 50 who actually knew the raw basics of PDF. Everyone else just knew it as a format but very few couldn tell if something was specifically PDF, postscript, RTF etc.

There are many variants: every time you get a new release of Adobe Acrobat, you get something new added to the specification. wiki

How about using something like cutepdf and just printing to it.

Thanks for the response xwb. Pretty big document there, basically it is a form set up in a pdf file. I imagine it might be hard to navigate to each field within the form unless I can also make the vbscript tab as well, but I mainly would like it to write for starters, the lack of information I was able to find was concerning but I also might not have been searching correctly.

So you are trying to automate filling in a PDF form? Adobe have some ActiveX libraries that might be of some help:

Thanks for the suggestion strongm, I was hoping to have a vbs macro to do the task because I am running it from a Personal Communications session, which I gather data in that application and set variables to which I want to write out into the form. It also seems with the restrictions I would not be able to put that type of program on my work computer either.
