Writing recognition

I know I've seen a few different examples of writing recognition programs, like for example where you draw in a box (with your mouse) a number 2 and the program recognizes it and prints out a '2'... Does anyone know where I could find a way to do that or the source code for it or anything? I know I've seen it and I used to even have source and a working EXE... but now I'm in need of it again and my HD was wiped dead.

Any suggestions guys?
