Writing formulas

Hello all,

I have done many reports in Access and am just now trying to get used to Crystal Reports (8.5 Pro).

Creating text boxes and writing a formula directly into them was a great way for me to work and keep control. Is there a way to do this in Crystal - I can't seem to do very much without the "experts".

For instance, in Access if I wanted to add the current date and time, I would add a textbox and type in "=Now()" (without the quotes). Is there an equivalent to this in Crystal Reports? Could I create a textbox and type something like "{@Now()}"?

Hi

You could use the "Special Fields" options in Field Explorer which has print date. If you want to add it to a text box just drag from the Field Explorer into the TextBox.

CurrentDate or CurrentDateTime are the typical equivalents of Now() for Crystal reports.

You can't type an expression directly into a text Object in CR. You have to create a formula using the Formula Editor (insert - field object) and then place the formula on your report.

Thanks for your replies everyone - Ken's was the answer I was looking for.

I look forward to learning Crystal Reports - but getting rid of my Access habits will be tough (I spent a good half-hour trying to type formulas into a textbox - well, at least I know now).
