Writer Status

Almost everytime I run a differential backup I get an error that giving me Failure accured querying the Writer status. I run the VSSadmin list writers and no errors come up but in a few of the Status it says Waiting for Completetion. Could this be my probelm and if so how can I fix it. I can do a full back up just fine.
