Open Office Writer v3.2.0 Build 9483. This is a fresh install on a new machine, Dual Core CPU, 2Gb RAM, ooodles of HDD space, running XP Pro SP3, and up-to-date with security and patches, etc.

User reports unable to open file after having previously opened it. It would appear that the .~lock file is not being removed immediately once the file is closed and/or the Writer application terminated. We're talking minutes here...

What process actually removes these temporary files? Is there some option or parameter that can be set to make 'em disappear more quickly? User had to resort to rebooting the machine at one point to get round this problem...

ROGER - G0AOZ.

- disable openoffice quickstart.
- see if openoffice process stays in tasklist after closing it.
