Hy

I've been searching for some days how I can configure my W2K clients to write an event when a user changes the sound settngs (volume) because the sound on some of our computers is very important and may not be changed. Are there event ID's who are related to the system sound and how can I configure auditing them?

Thanks,

Stoffel

Programmaticly the event log is accessible to write an entry. You would need to right a wrapper around the entire volume control applet though.

Many public accesss sites face this issue and there exists several utilities, some freeware. Libraries, for example, face this issue all the time.

Example:
You could set the sound volume as you want, then remove or rename soundval.exe to prevent changes, or if using NTFS deny to all but the Administrator acccess to that applet.

I am sorry, the control applet is sndvol32.exe.
