I have a friend who uses MS Works, but nobody can open her text documents. I had her send me a sample by e-mail, and it arrived in .wps format (which sounds like WordPerfect) and the Internet said it came out of MS Works. So I told her to use "save as" and select .doc format, which everybody can open. She says this is not possible. Is this likely? What is going on?

As far as I know, Works does not accomodate save as for Office formats (.xls,.doc, etc) Have her try saving as .rtf which is available in many versions of Works. This can be opened by pretty much anyone and then saved as .doc locally if desired.

If it is a .WPS or WPT file open it in Word (File>Open>Files of Type>Choose Works 2000 or Works 4.0)

If its a .WKS file open it in Excel (File>Open>Files of Type>Choose Microsoft Works 2.0 Files)

Hope this helps,

A,
