Despite Cisco's assurances that connecting a WPA2 enabled Cisco 1200 access point running AES encryption to our wired LAN is safe, I'm seeking some third party assurance!

While putting the wireless LAN into a DMZ and making corp users VPN into the wired LAN is belt and braces, I'd rather that than have our LAN security compromised.

So, your thoughts please, would you connect this kind of access point to your wired LAN and feel that it was secure?

BTW this access point will not be connected to Cisco switches.

Thanks.

WPA2 with AES is strong enough to protect the radio signal integrity, much like VPN it encrypts the data transmission with a strong algorithm. However, your focus should be placed on Authentication as this is were the security is really critical in wireless network.
I would suggest deploying a RADIUS server so as not to rely on encryption key alone.
