Connecting with OPEN and no Encryption ... no problems connecting to shared file and printers on other computers (Wired)

Connecting with WPA-PSK TKIP Encryption ... connections to internet and Email services but absolutely no shared services???

No Server, all pc's are static IP and use netbios over IP with a Group.

Is it not possible to use Wireless encryption with sharing or is there some additional Authentication needed to allow Peer to Peer connections?

Your static IPs likely allow the internet traffic unless you block on the basic of MAC addresses of the adapters.

The LAN connection is blocked because the WPA keys do not match. This can be hard to do with different hardware adapters, but not impossible.

Be very carefull when entering the keys.

Not following ... the wireless setup on the Router only has one setting for WPA key ... the wired PC's do not have a WPA key that I am aware of ... the wireless PC only has one setting for WPA key ... I am thinking there has to be an authentication problem at the os level (but why does it change when I turn on WPA)... SMC points at MS/Dell and Dell says they don't support Network configuration ... they are stating because the wireless card works with no encryption I am on my own with getting encryption to work.

I am using MAC Filtering on the Router ... SMC also has a no SSID reporting option for "security" but that doesn't work either (SMC's response was to not use that feature)

My expectation is that the Wireless componets encapsulate just the connection from the wireless network card to the wireless interface of the router ... the LAN/WAN portion of the process in my view should be transparent

The key here is without WPA on everything works fine ... as soon as WPA is turned on the LAN devices are no longer available to the wireless Laptop so whats changed?

hen I tried to get this to work a couple of weeks ago Norton acknowledged that there was someone attempting to connect to the PC ... I put a rule in to allow access and the non encrypted connection works. Dell support wants me to turn off Norton ... not an option!

wonder if its an mtu problem. can you ping with wpa turned on?
