Hello,

My friend has an old HP Pavilion 4453 with a dead 6.4 GB Ultra DMA hdd. Would it be worth buying a new hdd for? If so, are there any reliable places to purchase a new hdd at? I am not exactly sure what kind of hdd he would need.

any tips would be great,

If the HP was working okay otherwise and your friend is happy with it, there's no reason not to replace the hard drive. I wouldn't go buy a new one... there's a good chance the system won't support it. Check eBay, or some vendors online that sell used hard drives. You should be able to pick up something aroud 10 GB for 25 or 30 dollars.

Keep in mind you'll need to reinstall the OS and all the applications. If you've got a rescue CD you're in luck, otherwise it might be cheaper to buy yourself a new system with all of that already installed and paid for.

I try not to let my ignorance prevent me from offering a strong opinion.
