I am attempting to install my first Novell Netware 5 network. I have Compaq workstation that meets the necessary requirements. I have loaded Netware 5 (by accepting defaults). I only chose IPX during install. The install appears to have completed successfully. I can bring the server up. However, I have a laptop with the Novell client on it to test login. The "server" is by itself, not on a live network, although I am using a mini-hub. I have the server plugged in and the laptop. I can see that the laptop has communication (green light on dongle) and the lan cable has a green light at the hub. Everything looks okay. However, when you click on the tree browse function, the window comes up empty. The same results are produced if you use the Microsoft Network Neighborhood. I have checked the cables, tried a different hub, tried different workstations that I know work on the live network. I guess, I am missing something in the setup of the server or something? Any ideas would be appreciated!

The first thing I would do is at the server, load the server monitor(by typing "monitor" at the prompt. Go down to the Lan/Wan section, this will show you the drivers that are loaded. If they are loaded, hit return on it, they you can see if the server is sending out and recieving packets. If it is not, then it is probably a driver or NIC problem.

Hope this helps..
