Hi,
On a Dell Latitude X300 laptop running XP Pro SP2, it went from booting up pretty quickly to taking about 3 minutes from the time the user enters the username/password to the time the desktop and its icons appear. Using msconfig.exe, I narrowed the problem down to the "workstation" service (also known as "lanmanworkstation"). Disabling the service makes the system boot normally, but as soon as I re-enable it, it's slooooow again.
I tried a registry edit that I found when Googling, but that didn't help.
I'm ready to do a XP Repair Install but wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
Will an XP Repair Installation even fix a problem related to a service?
I can't leave the service disabled because without it, the system can't print to network printers or access network servers.
