I'm finally making the move from a Workgroup based network to an AD based network. (I'm trying to remove IPX/SPX from the network) I've discovered that in order to remove NetBIOS, I have to use DNS. DNS and DHCP are working properly.
My problem is this - when I join a computer to the domain, the client machines create a "new" user profile - for example, under c:\documents and settings, there is one profile for the workgroup, c:\documents and settings\mike, and a new profile for the domain, c:\documents and settings\mike.company.com. I've tried to copy the old profile to the new one, using "my
computer", (right click) "properties", "advanced", "user profiles", "settings", "copy to", but the copy to option is greyed out. I'm using the administrator account, but Windows still won't let me copy the old profile.
Is there a setting on the Server side I need to fix? I haven't enabled any restrictions on computer machines, and in fact, haven't actually created a computer account in AD for this machine, only user accounts. Or do I need to be logged into the server, not the client machine? Do I need to have domain rights or something on the client? How would I do that?
Thanks.
