Workstation Profile vs network profiles

Please can someone explain the difference between the two profiles...., because I have a use that got a new Gateway3400 and he did not let the PC estabilsh a profile for him, the user kept hitting the enter button during login periods. I instructed the user to let the system establish a profile for him but the profile changed the desktop (icons) and IE5.5 (bookmarks).

Q-How can I regain the old bookmarks and icons?

*I've retried various different ways to restore this profile even using ACRserve to restore the network profile.

Did this occur during the installation of the OS? Is the PC on a network? Did the user previously have a network login? What kind of network?
