workstation logout error

symptom:
Our Network structure: one Server plus serveral workstations based on solaris 8 .
workstations connect with server through SUN NIS .

some error messages " ... can not setenv DISPLAY:0.0..."
given when a user logout from the workstation.But normally,it should be logout and pop up a dialogue box to enable another user to login.
