Hello,

Hope someone can shed some light on this problem:

I moved a printer to another workstation and set it up as a share between 3 other pc's. Now, before I go any further; this worked on another computer; but they needed to upgrade their workstation and it only came with a USB port.

When others try to print to the print/share the computer crashes.

Here are the steps I have tried already:

1.Downloaded drivers from HP Laserjet 2100 installed it on the troubled computer.
2.Shared it so others can see the printer in their directory and have access.
3.I also tried deleting the registry key and then allowing the printer to recreate it when installing it on the system.
4.I exported the registry key to match it on the other systems.
5. I included the .dll etc files in the registry string to avoid the message that keeps popping up in the event viewer stating that the drivers are being installed. Event code 20

I am not sure what else to try, does anyone have any clues?
Can someone please let me know, as I am stumped by this problem.

This does not happen from a specific application, its any program that they use...

Looking forward to your responses.

George

I would uninstall the printer (unplug).. go to hp and get the latest driver... install.. plug in the printer after the driver is installed.. test print.. share it out and then try to connect to it via another workstation..

other questions are ..

are all the OSs the same?
What is the OS of the host workstation?

maybe its over my head.. but why are you hacking the registry on all the other machines if the host is crashing?

Perhaps there's a memory problem or other resource issue with the new Print Server workstation. Can you print ok locally?

I can try to unplug and reinstall per your instructions to see if this helps, will let you know what happens.

Thank you for the follow up. To answer your questions:

All OSs are the same.
OS on the workstation is WinXP Pro

I am hacking the registry 'cause when they are sending the print job to the host workstation(printer) they receive an error in the event log (20), stating it cannot download all drivers or .dlls, so by modifying the registry and entering them manually I would have hoped to avoid the error.

I can print ok locally with no problems. Its when others whom are shared to that workstation crash the host computer. The interesting thing is it doesn't happen on a set pattern. Lets say I am printing 20 pages, it could happen at the first page or 2nd, 3rd or even towards the end of the job.

Also, this printer was on another workstation before I moved it to this one, the other workstation did not have a problem, everyone was able to print ok, once I moved it, problems began...

Any other ideas?
