Appologies if this one is simple too but I don't have a manual....

I want to change the workspace background image from grey marble to something more exciting ;)
I also want to change the background of the workspace icons that currently look like a bad jpeg.
Is this possible?

The gray marble background and the workspace are products of the mail template. To change it you would have to access the template in Domino Designer. Keep in mind that if you change the template on the server, it will change the appearance for all. Also there is the matter of the ECS which gave us a headache the first time we modified the mail template.

The icons you refer to as bad jpegs: do you mean the cartoonish drawings of envelopes and "crayola-colored" people? If so, those are the icons designed into each database. Again, you'd need to open each database in Domino Designer and find the icon under "Resources -- Other" and modify it there. Keep in mind that if the database replicates from others or templates, the icon modifications might be overwritten the next time replication occurs.

i don't have access to the server. is there no temporary location where the images are stored so i can overwrite them?
the icon background i want to change are the big square things on the workspace that contain the smaller icon and database name inside. i say they are like jpegs because the background image just looks like artifacts (random dots) that you get.

thanks.

I don't believe so. The squares and the marble background in the "workspace" are designed in the mail template. R5 users templates are either Mail(R5.0) or iNotes Mail and C&S. There may be an outside chance you could modify the local copy of these templates, but since they are tied by ID to the server copy, they inevitably will reset when replication and updates take place. So the server copy is what you really need to modify.
