Hi, I am trying to figure out a DHTML effect which works on IE but doesnt do anything in netscape(including no errors) and something that works in Netscape and doesnt do anything in IE(including no errors)

I am not very familiar with specifics, so I am having a hard time trying to find this..

It would be great if you could point out these distinctions.

Thanks

No I was just looking for effects, that will only work in netscape or effects that will only work in IE, nothing specific...just that they dont give errors in the other browser?

Like I think Glow and inverting etc, doesnt work in Netscape, but does in IE..

Thanks,

I've never tried running IE's effects in NN, as I've always assumed that being IE only, they would not work... So I'm unsure as to what errors they may give.

However, I would say that given you are only after effects that work in a single browser, your best bet would be simply to use the effects only after you have determined the browser. This way, no matter what browser the user is using, you will (if properly implemented) never get errors in any other browser.

There are plenty of rowser detection scripts out there, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I think if you go with IE filters in CSS you should be ok, since all other browsers will ignore them because they are not proper css properties. Your CSS probably won't validate this way, but you will get your effects in IE and no errors in other browsers.

Thanks for the response, this will do for IE, how about a similar effect for netscape? something that works in netscape and will not do anything in IE and will also not generate errors, and I dont want to detect the browser for this.

Thanks.

There are no such similar effects for non-IE browsers (including Mozilla). In fact... the IE effects won't work outside of Windows.

You might have to move to using embedded flash... this will offer different effects - one of them may be suitable (and it ought to be cross-browser as well).
