I made a stencil that has text as part of it. When i try to resize the drawing the text does not go smaller. It gets all messed up. What do i need to do to make the text work with the stencil?

Go into the shapesheet for the text on the part and set its character cell to be a fixed fraction of the page size.

=ThePage!PageHeight/12

sorry but not finding anything that shows that. not sure if i am looking in the proper place. its all the text on the drawing that i made that will not adjust to the sizing of the item. took a picture of a item and wanted to make a stencil of the item. It has text on it and added it to the drawing.

Right-click on the Stencil item.
Choose edit master.
Select the text
Open the ShapeSheet (view|Shapesheet) or Alt WS
Scroll down to the Character row
Edit the Size property as above.
Close all, saving changes.
Now whenever you paste that stencil item, it's text will be a fixed proportion of the page height

When i enter the information from above visio does not like it. it takes only the =ThePage and deletes everything after. This has to be done with all the text items on the stencil?

What version of Visio are you using? The stuff above definitely works in V2K (and therefore should be OK with later)

Visio Professional 2003 sorry should have told you that to begin with.

Sorry I haven't moved up to 2003.

Can someone else here check the syntax for 2003 please?

That technique has worked since the early days of Visio. I did a cut and paste from the above message into a shapesheet in Visio 2003 and it worked.

Entering information into a shapesheet cell is similar to how it works in Excel. There will be an entry field at the top ofthe screen with a green check mark and a red X. Cut the information from the message and past it into this entry field making sure that you replace the previous contents.
