Hi,

I am having a problem working with nondefault calendar.
I am using MS Project 2007 (office with SP2 - Language Portuguese)

Situation:
1. Start a new project.
a. create a task with duration of 1 day in a friday
b. create a second task with duration of 1 day and make a constraint Finish to Start (the second starts when the the first task finishes).
c. Look at Gantt chart. You will see the first task starting and finishing on Friday and the second task starting and finishing on Monday.

2. Create a new calendar based on default calendar:
a. On the Tools menu, click Change Working Time.
b. Click New.
c. In the Name field, type Test Calendar and then click OK.
d. In the calendar grid, select Monday to Friday.
e. Under Set selected date(s) to, click the Nondefault working time option.
f. In the From and To boxes, change to 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00
g. Make Saturday and Sunday nonworking time.
3. Click OK
4. On Tools menu, click Options.
5. On tab Calendar change:
a. Default start time to : 08:00
b. Default end time to: 17:00
6. Click OK
7. On Project menu, click Project information
8. Change the calendar to the one created before, Test Calendar.
9. Click OK

Now look again at Gantt chart. You will see the first task starting on Frinday and finishing on Monday, before 8:00. The ending date of this task is Monday!!

What could be the problem? Is it a Project issue?
Note that both calendars have working days of 8 hours.
And the default time (Tools/Options/Caldendar) was just changed from 9:00 to 18:00 to 8:00 to 17:00 (same periods)

Thanks in advance

You say you're using P2007 but the steps you describe are for P2003 (and P2000, too, I believe but I don't have access to earlier versions).

Step 2.f says to change time to 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00 -- but those are the standard default times in my project (or did I misunderstand).

In spite of all that ... I still have something that might help:

Tools > Options View-tab
Change "Date Format" to one of the options that has a date and time.
Click on OK

Project > Project information ...
Change the Start Date time to your non-standard start time.

Now check things out. Did that fix your problem?

Thanks for the answer.
I use Project 2007 (12.0.6423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000), Brazilian.

The default working period is 9:00 to 18:00. THe hints you have made did not solve the problem.
Have you followed the steps before to verify if that problem really exist? I think it could be a Project bug.

Thanks again

Yup ... P2007 (also known as P12) is definitely the version you're using.

The directions for calendar updating did, however, seem to match the P2003 displays/prompts.

OK, I'll play around with this and see what I can come up with.
