How do multiple Master Pages work? I created an A-master with a text holder frame which will which will be used on every page in a 144 pg book. I created a B-master, based on the A-master, which has the page number and page header, but will not be used on every page.

The client wanted to change the page margins. I enabled the Layout Adjustment and changed the text holder frame in A-master, but the frames on the document pages do not change.

In my experiments I discovered that:
1. If I have only one master page, the adjustment to the text holder frame in the A-master works changes all the pages of my documents.
2. If I have a B-master (based on the A-master) the adjustment I make to the text holder frame in the A-master does not work for any of my pages

I hope I understand your question - not quite sure.

Try this. When you make a change to A master, make sure you double click A master in the pages window so you're working on that master. When done, click Apply Master to Pages in the Pages window. In the next window, select the pages. In you case A master would be applied to 1-144. You could also Shift click (mac) on Page 1 and Page 144 and that would select all pages, and then go to Apply Master in Pages window and select the proper master - A in this case.

B master is different. Since you based B on A, that text holder should actually be on B master, which appears to be something you do not want. When you change A, and want to apply that to B, click on B in pages window & go to Master Options for B. Click the Based On scolling menu, go to A (even thoguh it already showed) and hit OK. That should update B.

In your case it really does not seem you want B based on A, since A is applied to all pages, while B is random. In that case, you would select None in the Based On menu in Master options for B. You would double click the B master in the Pages window & make your changes. You would then apply B to whatever pages you choose.

When yu make changes to nya Master make sure to Apply master again to update the pages.

I hope I understood your question properly.

Yes, you did understand the problem correctly, and your answer helped me sort out how to organize my master pages better.

Thanks
