I want to select records over 2 days old, which is fine Tues-Fri but on Mon-Tues, so I want to check what day it is today first, to use that in the calculation. Clues please.

Clues" abound! check the ubiquitous {F1} (aks HELP for "weekday". See faq181-261 for the thing WAY beyond your aparent needs (or just search the fora) for example(s) of usage.
