On the eve of issuing a PO for 45 seats of MSO, I decided to goback and revisit OOo (It's been a couple years). I was delighted to see how close it was in function. I decided to beat it up and see if I could find a roadblock and have only run up against a template issue.

I have a network share that keeps all of the company templates that we use for proposals, budgets, faxes etc. Office allows me to decair a path to that share and then show the user the available templates. Fo whatever reason I cant get calc or writer to do this...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can of course use standard OS facilities to define a network share which would contain templates, and make that share available to all users, putting a shortcut on their desktop if desired. They can then open the templates shortcut, and open one of the template files, which would start a new document based on that template.

OOO also has built-in facilities for template sharing. Template files can be placed in the share/template subdirectory of the program directory; then they can be opened using the File/Template/Edit option in OOO. However, this is probably not what you want.

Thanks. I just got finished with a converasation with my boss who expressed that she is not inclined to support a migration. It would seem that paying a huge tithing to M$ feels better than running with the Open source movement...

I told her that if it would make her more comfortable I could probably find someone willing to invoice us $10,000 for 45 seats of Open Office...

I'd be willing to do that. I'd even throw in a free CD if she doesn't object. What's her name and address?

There also is the VBA side (or non I should say) of OO.
