The mshome workgroup keeps popping up in my network neighborhood but I can't figure out where it is coming from. It's probably someone plugging in a laptop from home, but I want to back track who it is since this is not allowed.
Any suggestions?

The workgroup will appear in your WINS server. If you want to get rid of it your network listing, delete then WINS entry of the workgroup and it will vanish. It can also give you the IP that registered it and you can maybe back-track it from there.

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

I have looked everywhere for this record in WINS.
I have 7 WINS servers and I have checked in all of the databases, just in case something did not replicate correctly.
I have also looked through all of the DHCP databases to see if anything looks out of the place there with no luck.

Does anyone have any more insite on this? mshome is back in network neighborhood this morning with no reference to it in any of the WINS databases.

Try to see who has the workgroup registered by:

net view /DOMAIN:MSHOME

I have a similar problem on my domain. The difference is that I'm not running any WINS servers, and the mshome.net domain only shows up when I install DHCP. For some reason, the DHCP server shows up as %servername%.mshome.net, instead of %servername%.clarke.local, as it should. Clarke.local is the only domain I have running right now. And when I try to unauthorize the DHCP server, I get the message "The parameter is incorrect", I'm assuming because of the bogus domain. I used the net view command as suggested above, and there is no server for the mshome domain.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Mike
[morning]

Did have the same problem on my Windows 2003 server. DHCP kept showing up with servername.mshome.net.

Finally found it....

Look for a file named hosts.ics. You will find an entry there which has your local IP address and "servername".mshome.net

Adjust it and your problems is fixed :)
