Hi,
Can some one help me. I have a workgroup(4 worksations and one server). Everything was working fine until there was a power shutdown. My problem is that all four computers and server can't see each other at the same time. Only 3 computers and the a server have connectivtiy at a time. For example computer # 1 looses connectivity and after rebooting it gets the connectivity but compputer #2 looses it. I am using a 5 port linksys switch. Is it from the switch or the server. Any clue.

can't see each other
If you're talking about Network Neighborhood, please post in the appropriate windows forum.

If you can ping the machines, TCP/IP is working.

I guess you are trying to share file/folder in the same workgroup.

Got to set all computers and server in same workgroup:
How to Set Computer Name and Workgroup in Windows XP

Then enable file/folder sharing:

Also don't forget to check any running firewalls (Windows firewall, antivirus firewall, etc) on all computers. They would block the traffic if you don't configure correctly.

Hope helps..

From my experience with those little 5 port switches, only four are used for actual connectivity---the fifth is usually hardcoded to be an uplink to the router (or another switch).

WTG Bert for recognizing that. I totally missed that when I read the post. To explain further..
Although there are 5 jacks on the switch, it is really only a 4 port switch. Jacks 1-4 are wired normally, whereas the 5th jack is associated with the 4th jack and wired in reverse to connect to another switch and is called the uplink port. You use either the 4th jack or the 5th jack - you can't use both at the same time.
