Worker threads killed after an hour

My event log on the sharepoint web server is constantly filling with "Thread was being aborted" errors. The web sites have a time out of 120 seconds. I believe the time out is that as the date time stamp in the event log for that event is exactly an hour.
The process is w3wp.exe.
Any help for a complete newbie at this would be appreciated - and if you need more info, please ask and I will supply.
Running on windows 2003 SP1

Could the above be caused by the "Web Page Security Validation" setting?
