Im having trouble with my workbooks corrupting themselves. I will work on a project and make significant progress, save several back-ups of corse, and then give it a break for a few days. During that time the sheet will open and close and run just fine. Then suddenly a few days later when I try to open it to run or edit my macros excel has a fatal error and must close. Then it re-opens and wipes out all my maros. Luckily I am keeping backups, but even at that I am loosing an entire day or two of work on a regular basis. Any ideas?

AppName: excel.exe AppVer: 10.0.6852.0 ModName: excel.exe
ModVer: 10.0.6852.0 Offset: 001a6123

I assume so. I ran the updater at Microsoft.com and it didn't come up with anything that I needed for Office.

Just in case this helps anyone, I opened the corrupt files on a later version of excel and re-saved them. Then I was able to open them again the old version. The old version still messes them up every now and then. Time to upgrade.

Hi JTBorton,

It's not clear from your post whether the 'new' version still suffers from corruption. If so, try removing the vba modules (export them first), saving the file, then re-opening and re-importing the vba modules.

macropod,

The answer is no, the new version did not still suffer from the corruption. Only the older excel version, 2000. I'm not sure if your idea will work in this particular case, I'll have to wait until it happens again. The reason being that when the file is corrupted it will still open and work fine as long as macros are disabled. It is when macros are enabled that it crashes excel 2000, then reloads and wipes out the macros. When I loaded the file on the next version of excel, 2003, it opened and ran the macros just fine even when the previous version, 2000, would not. Then I simply re-saved from 2003 and re-opened the project on excel 2000 and life was a bowl of peaches again.

Is that a little more clear? It seems to happen when I try to explore new form controls, like adding in the gridline control or the toolbar control, etc.
