I got this msg after trying to backup the Exchange Svr which cause the backup to FAILED.

WARNING: *.LOG" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.

Veritas Database States this:

The error message is generated when Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 attempts to back up a file that is in use by another application or user. Backup Exec may back up partial data from such a file, but when it is not able to continue the backup of the file, Backup Exec marks the file on Tape as corrupt. The file as it exists on the hard drive is intact. The error message will fail the backup job.

Purchase of the Backup Exec Open File Option (OFO) will allow the successful recording of in-use ("corrupt") files.

Note: How do I get around this if I choose not to buy another AGENT (OFO) from them?

Thanks

JA

Well I guess if you wanted to stop all of the exchange services while backing BE would then be able to backup that file along with others. We use the OFO, and all it seems to do is make your log file prettier by not saying "FAILED". I may be wrong but all the OFO really does is reconize that the file is in use and mark it as skipped. You still did not get a backup of it!!! Correct me please if I am wrong.

Open File Option is a simple concept but not as simple to setup. It allows open files to be backed-up by creating a copy of them in memory, does some kind of pointer swap so the process(es) that are using them can continue to use them. Im not 100% sure of the finner details - but it's something like that. When you configure the OFO option via the Wizard, you have to make a few calculations and enter your results where applicable. Basically you have to reserve some memory for as many files that may be in use - so it can be a hog! Also, if you use this option with Remote Server (Agents) it get's even more complicated.
The results you get will vary - depending on your environemnt...

I also think that you may be refering to the Check Box and Radio button options in the General configuration page / window. These options will only be applicable in you have the OFO option installed - otherwise , you are right! It doesn't do a thing...

Replying to GOMOBILE:

I found a tech article @ Veritas' site about a Registry Key hack that prevents corrupt file messages to FAIL your job - it works !

Sorry that I may not point you to the exact location.

: )

greetings to all and yes I did have to make a change on the REGISTRY for that reporting *.log corrupt log file error. The system did backup without abending once I ma de the change. Other then that thanks to all.

By the way here is the link for that pesky LOG modification.
