Bringing in an associate, I would like to make part of my staff database available to him from home, but not give him full access to the office database. I am thinking of putting it on a second domain with web access for him.

Am I correct in thinking that I can save the files on the web server and that he can access them from a copy loaded onto his own computer?

What would other options be? Right now I don't want to dump the entire file on him.

He could connect thru a VPN.

Throughput is generally pretty slow, IF you can get it to work, depending on connection speed of both office connectivity and his home connectivity.

You could also go the Terminal Services (TS) route.

Likely you'd need an outsider to set up either one, unless you have someone already familiar in-house. (I say that for time consideration; it isn't fast to learn either one from what I understand. Particularly since you want to limit what they can access.)

And then there is hosting the data on your office server, using Paradox as a Web Server, and providing access that way through a web browser. But likely a new or re write to give that access.

Several options. None that quick that I know of. Other than FTP access to what you want him to have and nothing else.

Thanks. Looks harder than I thought. Ithink I have pc anywhere around here somewhere. That might do it.

Kinda like a single TS session.

You'll have to limit access some other way - pcanywhere will allow access to whatever records are in the tables you give access to.

Don't be surprised if the results are slow. Unless you have broadband on both ends, I wouldn't expect it to be fast enough for constant use.

That's ok. I am setting up one specific table for him. I was thinking a network with only one shared folder containing the databases and the resumes. I'd actually trust the man to open the entire space, on which there is little if anything of interest, but he has roommates and girlfriends, who I don't know.
