Hi I am creating a wordpress site that when someone registers and clicks the submit button, I need to be able to connect to a SQL database hosted elsewhere and check data in that database against data supplied on the registration form.

I hope that makes sense but I have no idea how to do this.

Any help, pointing in the right direction would be great.

Regards.

assuming the database is a sql rdbms, it just sits on a server and accepts incoming messages. Where it accepts messages from is up to its configuration.

assuming it is allowed to accept messages from your wordpress server, it is just a case of connecting to the database server via the appropriate php extension (you have not told us which database you are using), passing it the query and assessing the results.

For more precise help about querying databases using php, provide more info.

For more help on how to do things in wordpress, please post in the wordpress forum.

Thanks for the reply. Wordpress uses a MySQL database and the database I need to connect to is a MS SQL 2005 database that is interactive. I have all the connection details but do not know how to construct the connection string and query using PHP.

I hope that answers you questions.
