I am using Red Hat 7.2, Kernel 2.2.4. I down loaded file WordPerfect.tar.gz, I placed the file in /usr/local/wp8 and as root typed the command "tar xvfz WordPerfect.tat.gz." The extraction process works perfect. I then, as instructed in the now available Readme file, typed in "sh Runme." I then get a message:
"Graphic Install Failed Try Using A Character Based Install" (I also tried "./Runme" with the same results).

I have never tried intalling a package except RPM's. I am lost here.

Questions:
1. Where can I find out how to use a character based install?

2. Better yet, how can I get the graphic install to work? Did I miss some part of my graphic environment when I installed Red Hat, maybe?

3. Am I placing the file in the wrong place prior to extraxting it with the tar command?

Linux is new to me, and I have invested a hugh amount of time (and I do mean a huge amount of time) muttling through trying to learn how to use it all. So far I am pleased  with what I have been able to teach myself. I see a day when I beleive it could be my primary OS(cool). I want to learn as much as I can, and would really appreciate any help or advice. Maybe someday I can learn enough to return the favor or contribute in some small way.

Thanks for your consideration

Chris,

Hold the CTRL key and the ALT key and press F1

You have a character login.

ALT-F2, F3 etc. are more character logins. ALT-F7 brings you back to the GUI.

You only need the CTRL key added to switch out of the GUI.

As to what else might be wrong, I have no clue. Tony Lawrence

Hi,

Hmmm .. you did well to find the tar.gz actually - its long gone from corel's site. Anyway, the text install starts if you are not running X otherwise the graphical installer comes to life ...

See -->
I vaguely remember that this app needs some of the older linux libraries to work. You might try installing this rpm :

ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.2/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm

Download and install as root with :

rpm -Uvh compat*.rpm

Hope this helps
