This is extremely unusual...
I recently upgraded our network and replaced our archaic server with a newer one. Immediately after the changeover, one of my client computers began having problems with Wordperfect 9.
When attempting to open the program, or any document (via an icon), Wordperfect reported it was unable to load
"C:\Program Files\Stamps.com Internet Postage\corelwordperfect2k_plugin.dll."
Unfortunately, Stamps.com has never existed on that particular computer. We have Stamps.com installed on a single client PC, and I have the program "quarantined" to that dedicated workstation.
Just to be sure, I ran the msicuu.exe to no avail. I checked the registry and sure enough, there was a key for a third-party lookup for stamps.com in Corel. I deleted said key.
Wordperfect continued to search for that .dll. After scouring the registry for anything else to no avail, I contacted Stamps.com
We brainstormed for the better part of an hour (read: I assured them again and again that stamps.com had never been on this machine and that I had in fact checked and double checked that assertion). The tech said to call Corel. Corel doesn't offer tech support for Wordperfect 9.
I uninstalled and re-installed Wordperfect 9: same problem.
I ran Stamps.com's "clean.exe" uninstall utility: no dice.
I installed stamps.com, re-ran "clean.exe": nothing (this was a suggestion from the 6th stamps.com tech)
I copied the .dll file in the properly named parent location from the dedicated machine: Wordperfect runs fine. (wtf?, right?)
Just to see if it was something screwy, I created a .dll with the same name and no information: didn't work.
So, I copied the information from the original .dll into my "decoy": nothing.
Recopied the original .dll: it works.
----
Long story short: I have one very jerry-rigged computer on my network, and that makes me a little uneasy. Any ideas? At this point I'm willing to try even the most gonzo of schemes.
Thanks in advance,
A.
