I recently installed Corel Office Suite 2002. I had been using Corel Office Suit 8 which I did not uninstall. The address book in WP8 continues to work fine; however, every time I try to create an address book in WP10 I get an error message: "Error creating database." The QUE manual on WP10 suggest that I may have a BDE conflict. What can be done to correct this conflict to allow the creation of an address book in WP10?

Hi, I replied to this on the other thread you posted to :)

I too originally got the same message but once I created the database first I stopped getting those messages.

Thank you for your response. I am new to this forum and was not sure where to post. Did you give a more detailed answer in your other response? I have been unable to locate it.

Dear DJ18;

I don't know if you've solved your problem yet, but I had the same problem a while back. The following is from the Corel KB. It worked perfectly. As always, be careful when you edit the registry.
Getting ''Error Creating Database'' or ''looping'' when trying to open the CorelCENTRAL™ Address Book or Calendar for the first time.

The information in this document applies to:
CorelCENTRAL 10

Problem

Getting "Error Creating Database" or "looping" when trying to open the CorelCENTRAL™ Address Book or Calendar for the first time. In these cases it appears that the Borland Database keys in the registry have not been properly updated during the install.

Answer:

1a. Use Corel Uninstaller to remove CorelCENTRAL only. Do not reboot the PC at this point.
Click Start, Run, Regedit, OK

From the Registry Editor:
Click Registry, Export Registry file and backup registry, this should be deleted once everything is up and running.
b. Delete the Borland Keys from the registry under HKey_Local_Machine, Software & HKey_Current_User, Software
*Do not be alarmed if one of the keys are missing.
c. If the operating system is Win98 or WinMe
Click Start, Run, msconfig
Under the General Tab choose Selective Startup, disable load startup group items. Click Apply, then OK.
d. Reboot the pc
e. Reinstall CorelCENTRAL10 only, start the installation, choose custom install, then custom setup and disable everything but CorelCENTRAL.

If the operating system is WinNT disregard 1c and reboot in VGA mode
If the operating system is Win2k disregard 1c and CTRL+ALT+DEL and close any apps that may be running before reinstalling.

If these steps fail it is recommended that you:

2a. uninstall the whole suite (backup anything necessary) do not reboot at this point
2b. repeat step 1b
2c. create a new folder on the desktop, call it anything but Corel
2d. copy the contents from the WP10 cd to the new folder
2e. reboot the pc in safe mode (WinNT go to VGA mode)
2f. restart the installation from within the new folder, double click on setup32.exe
2g. reboot in regular mode

Hope it works for you.

Dear Tom,
Thanks for the response. Before I received it, I followed the advise of another, who suggested that I simply uninstall WP8 and then reinstall Corel 10 over the existing version. That did work and the address book which I had created in CorelCentral 8 somehow survived it all and is working perfectly in version 10. All's well that ends well, even if you get there via a different route. Thanks again for your suggestion. I'll pass it on to the person who gave me the alternate advice, in case someone is interested in keeping both versions going at the same time.
