WordApplication error

I am trying to use the WordApplication component from the "servers" tab.
When I try to add a new document I get an error

WordApplication1->Documents->Add ...
Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000.

Any idea what I am doing wrong ?
I have tried several code fragments from the internet and from cbuilder helpfiles. Every time the same error occurs.
Could it be a faulty installation of the office components ?
