Hi All,

I'm troubleshooting a weird situation on one desktop computer (WindowsXP/SP3) when you try to open a word or excel document that is on the desktop or from "My Documents". The computer will completely freeze and the application will hang to the point I have to logoff and log back on. The only way to open these documents without the app hanging, is to open the Word or Excel program first, then open the document from there via the office open function. I've completely uninstalled Office2007 and reinstalled Office2007. Office2007 is at the latest SP2 service pack. I thought after the reinstall of Office this would work, but the problem is still ongoing. It seems Word and Excel are the only two applications that is causing this.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Please look at thread68-1529723

How do you access "Tools==>Options==>General" in office2007? I know you can access Tools==>Options menu in office2003. 2007 is a little different.

Thx

Sorry. Still married to 2003. Have filed for divorce.

Office Button; Excel Options; Advanced; General; 'Ignore Other Applications That Use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)'

That setting in Excel was already "unchecked". I don't see this setting in word. Any thoughts?

Zoey, did you see the last post in that thread?

xlhelp,

I will try this on the "Excel" side, but I have an issue with Microsoft word doing this as well. I will try your excel suggestions and post back. Any thoughts on the word issues?

Thx

Exactly the same, no diff.

I value your input. you put together a great thread. To me, it seems like a lot to have to do for a clean installation of office2007, but I guess that's Microsoft for you. I did the try the following:

(1) (Microsoft Word) - deleted the normal.dot. I can now open word documents without the computer hanging (It was mostly a word issue). I was able to also open excel documents from the desktop. This could be short lived. If the problem comes back I will go through your thread again and start doing some of your suggestions for excel.

Thanks
