WORD2002/Yahoo Mail copy/paste problem

Recently, I've run into a problem using WORD 2002 with my Yahoo Mail. I've always been able to copy and paste Yahoo Mail messages into a new WORD .doc file. WORD is now freezing whenever I attempt this process and I can only end it via Task Manager. The only workaround is using WordPad, a very limited unssatisfactory remedy.

I've seen similar things discussed but only in connection with WORD 2002 found in Works Suite; this does not apply to me as I have OfficeXP Pro. ANY IDEAS?

Thanx,
John

I have to admit that although I don't fully understand the underlying issues here I believe it has something to do with both how up to date (patched) word is and how complicated the web site is. Complicated in the sense of java script etc. Word 2003 seems to cope better. 2007 I haven't tried yet. Open Office writer doesn't freeze, it simply gives up the ghost!

Having said that. Is word freezing on you, or simply being slow? Fire up task manager before you do the copy/paste. As long as word is using CPU leave it to get on with it. It can take a long time. A very long time when your waiting! But if you are patient enough it may finally complete the copy. However, it can then take an age to save the document and even an age to open it later.

If anyone can throw any light on this behaviour I for one would be grateful.

A little clarification: WORD is "Not Responding" and eventually becomes a blank page. The Copy/Paste between my WORD app and Yahoo Mail has never been a problem until very recently; it's always been fast and clean.

Some of the liks I posted refer to patches or updates that might have been applied... let me know if any of them help.

Can you paste from other web pages?

Further Clarification: Yahoo Mail is the ONLY Copy source where this has appeared. I can paste from everywhere else. Also, I can successfully paste into WordPad from Yahoo Mail.

Mike:
Thanx so much for your input. Yahoo is the ONLY program giving me this problem. I checked out the links you posted. While none of them hit it on the mark, the first one points towards what I believe is the problem: one of the patches/updates in the past 2-4 weeks.
I tried Paste Special and it now appears that it's the HTML formatting that won't paste. The unformatted text options as well as the RTF all successfully paste the Yahoo Mail message into the WORD doc.

Maybe Yahoo has changed their web design that is effecting it? I don't have Word 2002 or a Yahoo account, so can't test more... maybe a message in the Microsoft or Yahoo groups would see if anyone else has seen it?

I guess something changed though. Problem is what changed that caused the problem. Maybe your idea correct. Hopefully.

Word is 'not responding' tell you nothing useful unfortunately unless the CPU is also idle. Any program that is busy can go into the 'not responding' state while it is doing whatever it need to. It's when a program gets stuck in an endless loop eating cycles, or gets hung waiting for an event that is never going to happen that there is an issue.

I suggest you try the following as a work around.

See what happens if you switch the document you are pasting into to landscape. Then using both landscape and portrait minimise the margins. This is to see if the issue is page size and margin related.

If you don't want the pictures and don't care too much about the layout then paste special and select rtf - that should work.

Yes I have similar issues but not with Yahoo Mail as I don't use that. Wordpad always seems to work - but you don't get everything and the layout is wrong.

There is a really devious solution - but it's a pain and I abandoned it. Download the trial of solidpdf. You can then print the pages you want as pdf files. You can then use solidpdf to convert the pdf's to word.
