Word2000: text box default settings...

Hi,

I often want to insert graphics content into my Word2000 documents, and in order to be able to control the positioning etc of my illustrations, I normally first create text boxes, into which I then insert my .gif or whatever files.

This works great, but I am very irritated by the fact that the text box default formatting (as set up on my system, at least) creates boxes with a thin black border and white, non-transparent fill.

Since I often want the boxes without any border and with the fill either set to another color or to (semi)transparent, I would like to redefine the default values.

I have tried clicking the "Set Autoshape Defaults" option which appears if I right-click on my text boxes, but to no avail.

Can some expert out there please tell me how I can change (and store to my .dot file) these text box defaults, if it is at all possible? I work on an NT 4.0 workstation with a fully patched and updated Office 2000 Professional installation.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, that's the way I figured it had to be done...

I do have vague recollections of this method working on a different computer, but that was "ages ago" at my former working place. However, I believe that then the settings only remained changed in a specific Word window - i.e. they never seemed to be saved (to normal.dot or wherever).

Dr.Mag:

I just recorded the insertion of a textbox and then removing the line setting, so you should be able to record a macro and put that macro as a toolbar button (perhaps right next to the textbox tool) to automatically insert a textbox that suits your needs.

If you don't know how to record a macro, just email me and ask for the RecordMacro.doc. dreamboat@nni.com

What a great workaround - why didn't I think of that myself...

But: I still would like to know how to reset the actual default property values!
