Word XP Styles not updating

I have 21 chapters of a book and in each chapter I kind of played with the formatting of each one as I learned more about what I liked and disliked. Now I finally decided upon a standard format and made a .DOT file. I'm going back and opening each chapter and loading the new .DOT file with Automatically Update clicked. But it just ignores the formatting in the new .DOT file and keeps the old formatting. I'm having to go back and reset all the formatting for each chapter even though they all point to the same .DOT. How frustrating and time consuming! Can someone give me some advice on this?

Ignore this post. A couple hours ago everything started working fine. Rebooting must have helped.
