Once a table has been drawn, some columns may need to be adjusted in width. No problem there, just position the mouse pointer exactly on the vertical line, hold down the lefthand button and drag the mouse left or right as appropriate, then release.

Now, here's my problem... The column width appears to jump in steps of about a tenth of an inch. Is there a way of adjusting this "jump"?

Also, having moved the insertion point indent markers to reduce the space either side of the heading in a column, I cannot seem to subsequently revert back to the original spacing again. The markers only seem to move "inwards" and not "outwards"! If the "undo" facility is not available, how can I do this please?

Not positive, but this works in later versions. When resizing your columns (or any picture or any other thing you can resize), hold the alt key down while you drag.

As for indents in tables, you may want to click inside the table, hit Table-Select table. Then, hit Format-Paragraph and set left and right indents to zero. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

Hi Dreamboat, and thanks for the response. Holding down the <Alt> key whilst dragging the column edge doesn't appear to alter the amount by which it moves. It does, however, show the column widths in inches or millimetres as it is moved back and forth. Good try!

Re indents in tables, that definitely looks promising, although it appears to affect the whole table rather than a particular column or cell.

Anyway thanks again...

Column width: Select column(s), hit Table-Cell height and width. You'll be able to change the column width in there.

Indents: Just select those cells that you want to change the width on before changing the indents. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word
