Word Templates Open as Templates not as New Documents?

When I upload a Word template (.DOT file) into a document library and then click on its link in the document library, the file opens as the Word template instead of a new document (.DOC file, based on the template).

This is a problem for us because we would like to have a document library that contains a variety of Word documents based on a variety of Word templates, rather than having multiple document libraries, each only containing one type of Word document.

However, SharePoint appears to only allow one template to be associated / used by a document library to create new documents.

Can anyone suggest a workaround or otherwise?

Many thanks.

Sharepoint dosn't recongize .dot files as a different files type of .dco One thing that might work for you as its what I do. Create the document libary for each type, then create a link list. List each file as a link then you will have the the .dot files as one list but different libaries.

When frustrated remember, in the computer world there is almost always a backdoor.
